Kerning’ is an ongoing series of abstract works in watercolour, collage and gold leaf, based on the principles of typography design.

 

In terms of composition the relationship between letterform types, the negative spaces, the flow and balance of design in typography, are factors in decision making for this series.

My use of colour has evolved from early studies into colour theory and in particular those developed at the Bauhaus by Johannes Itten and his 1920 publication and treatise on colour.

 

I use these works as in intrinsic part of my creative process to interpret problems in design and colour.
